2010-11-09tests: add missing &&Jonathan Nieder
Breaks in a test assertion's && chain can potentially hide failures from earlier commands in the chain. Commands intended to fail should be marked with !, test_must_fail, or test_might_fail. The examples in this patch do not require that. Signed-off-by: Jonathan Nieder <jrnieder@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2010-08-18t/t3300-funny-names: change from skip_all=* to prereq skipÆvar Arnfjörð Bjarmason
Change this test to skip test with test prerequisites, and to do setup work in tests. This improves the skipped statistics on platforms where the test isn't run. Signed-off-by: Ævar Arnfjörð Bjarmason <avarab@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2010-06-25tests: Skip tests in a way that makes sense under TAPÆvar Arnfjörð Bjarmason
SKIP messages are now part of the TAP plan. A TAP harness now knows why a particular test was skipped and can report that information. The non-TAP harness built into Git's test-lib did nothing special with these messages, and is unaffected by these changes. 2008-08-26Suppress some bash redirection error messagesRamsay Jones
In particular, when testing if the filesystem allows tabs in filenames, bash issues an error something like: ./t4016-diff-quote.sh: pathname with HT: No such file or directory which is caused by the failure of the (stdout) redirection, since the file cannot be created. In order to suppress the error message, you must redirect stderr to /dev/null, *before* the stdout redirection on the command-line. Also, remove a redundant filesystem check from the begining of the t3902-quoted.sh test and standardise the "test skipped" message to 'say' on exit. 2008-05-24tests: do not use implicit "git diff --no-index"Junio C Hamano
As a general principle, we should not use "git diff" to validate the results of what git command that is being tested has done. We would not know if we are testing the command in question, or locating a bug in the cute hack of "git diff --no-index". Rather use test_cmp for that purpose. 2008-03-13more tr portability test script fixesJeff King
Dealing with NULs is not always safe with tr. On Solaris, incoming NULs are silently deleted by both the System V and UCB versions of tr. When converting to NULs, the System V version works fine, but the UCB version silently ignores the request to convert the character. This patch changes all instances of tr using NULs to use "perl -pe 'y///'" instead. Signed-off-by: Jeff King <peff@peff.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2007-12-18the use of 'tr' in the test suite isn't really portableH.Merijn Brand
Some versions of 'tr' only accept octal codes if entered with three digits, and therefor misinterpret the '\0' in the test suite. Some versions of 'tr' reject the (needless) use of character classes. 2007-07-03Rewrite "git-frotz" to "git frotz"Junio C Hamano
This uses the remove-dashes target to replace "git-frotz" to "git frotz". Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2007-03-04Get rid of the dependency to GNU diff in the testsJohannes Schindelin
Now that "git diff" handles stdin and relative paths outside the working tree correctly, we can convert all instances of "diff -u" to "git diff". This commit is really the result of $ perl -pi.bak -e 's/diff -u/git diff/' $(git grep -l "diff -u" t/) Signed-off-by: Johannes Schindelin <johannes.schindelin@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net> (cherry picked from commit c699a40d68215c7e44a5b26117a35c8a56fbd387)

echo isn't remotely standardized for handling backslashes, so cat + heredoc seems better Signed-off-by: Eric Wong <normalperson@yhbt.net> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2006-01-06t3300: skip when filesystem does not like TAB in filenames.Junio C Hamano
Instead of checking Cygwin explicitly, see if the filesystem lets us create funny filenames. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>

2005-10-18No funny names on cygwin...Johannes Schindelin
On FAT/NTFS, filenames cannot contain tabs. So t3300-funny-names would reliably fail already when trying to create such files. Signed-off-by: Johannes Schindelin <johannes.schindelin@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
