2013-02-01Documentation: avoid poor-man's small caps GITThomas Ackermann
In the earlier days, we used to spell the name of the system as GIT, to simulate as if it were typeset with capital G and IT in small caps. Later we stopped doing so at around 1.6.5 days. Let's stop doing so throughout the documentation. The name to refer to the whole system (and the concept it embodies) is "Git"; the command end-users type is "git". And document this in the coding guideline. Signed-off-by: Thomas Ackermann <th.acker@arcor.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2012-10-18Documentation/howto: convert plain text files to asciidocThomas Ackermann
These were not originally meant for asciidoc, but they are already so close. Mark them up in asciidoc. Signed-off-by: Thomas Ackermann <th.acker@arcor.de> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2009-01-13Fix Documentation typos surrounding the word 'handful'.Jon Loeliger
Some instances replaced by "handful of", others use the word "few", a couple get a slight rewording. Signed-off-by: Jon Loeliger <jdl@freescale.com> Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2008-07-21Update my e-mail addressJunio C Hamano
The old cox.net address is still getting mails from gitters. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <gitster@pobox.com>
2007-06-07War on whitespaceJunio C Hamano
This uses "git-apply --whitespace=strip" to fix whitespace errors that have crept in to our source files over time. There are a few files that need to have trailing whitespaces (most notably, test vectors). The results still passes the test, and build result in Documentation/ area is unchanged. 2007-01-18git-format-patch: the default suffix is now .patch, not .txtJunio C Hamano
Editors often give easier handling of patch files if the filename ends with .patch, so use it instead of .txt. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>

2005-11-20Documentation: rebase-from-internal minor updates.Junio C Hamano
git-commit -v flag has been the default for quite some time, so do not mention it. Also a typofix. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-09-08Big tool rename.Junio C Hamano
As promised, this is the "big tool rename" patch. The primary differences since 0.99.6 are: (1) git-*-script are no more. The commands installed do not have any such suffix so users do not have to remember if something is implemented as a shell script or not. (2) Many command names with 'cache' in them are renamed with 'index' if that is what they mean. There are backward compatibility symblic links so that you and Porcelains can keep using the old names, but the backward compatibility support is expected to be removed in the near future. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-08-29Remove git-apply-patch-script.Junio C Hamano
Now the rebase is rewritten to use git cherry-pick, there is no user for that ancient script. I've checked Cogito and StGIT to make sure they do not use it. Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-08-26Add Abstract: support for howto index generator.Junio C Hamano
Maybe it's time for me to really learn asciidoc. Also I should do Perl ;-). Signed-off-by: Junio C Hamano <junkio@cox.net>
2005-08-15[PATCH] Add some simple howtos, culled from the mailing list.Ryan Anderson
I think these are useful, and I think putting them in a new "howto" directory might help some users until we get to the point of splitting up the tutorial to be easier to read. Given the authorship, I think it's safe to put these in the repository. Signed-off-by: Ryan Anderson <ryan@michonline.com>
