Merge branch 'lh/git-file'

* lh/git-file:
  Teach GIT-VERSION-GEN about the .git file
  Teach git-submodule.sh about the .git file
  Teach resolve_gitlink_ref() about the .git file
  Add platform-independent .git "symlink"
